A spacious Victorian coach house with games room, wood-fired hot tub and large gardens.

The Coach House

Sleeps 8 +2 | 4 beds | 4 baths | enclosed garden | hot tub | wood burner | BBQ | games room

A spacious Victorian coach house restored for slower stays in the Welsh hills.

Sleeping up to eight guests (plus one or two smaller ones) across four bedrooms and four bathrooms, the house combines large communal spaces with quieter corners overlooking the gardens and surrounding landscape. A substantial country kitchen, wood-burning stove and generous dining spaces make it particularly suited to families and longer gatherings.

Outside, the grounds include a wood-fired hot tub, fire pit, pond and outdoor dining areas, while the separate games room within the old stable block includes table tennis, pool table, darts and another wood burner.

From the doorstep, footpaths lead directly into the wider Lofftwen landscape of restoring woodland, meadow and wetland.

The Building

The Coach House originally provided stabling and laundry facilities for what was then the Dolecoed Country Hotel. Heat from the old laundry was once used to warm the carriages before they were brought around to collect guests from the house.

The ostler — responsible for the horses, stables and carriages — lived within the building itself, and traces of these earlier uses still remain scattered throughout the structure today.

Over time the building has been carefully restored as a place for gathering, while retaining elements of its earlier Victorian character and history.

Staying at the Coach House

Sleeping

The Coach House sleeps up to eight adults plus one or two additional guests on a sofa bed, across four bedrooms and four bathrooms.

The master bedroom includes a super king-size bed, ensuite bathroom and private balcony overlooking the gardens, while the remaining bedrooms can be arranged flexibly for families and groups.

The scale of the house allows guests to spend time together without feeling crowded, with quieter corners and separate living spaces throughout the building.

Cooking & Gathering

The large kitchen, dining and living spaces are designed for shared meals and longer stays together, with a dedicated dining room at the centre of the house.

Sitting areas open onto the surrounding gardens and trees, while the wood-burning stove becomes the focus of the house during colder months.

Outside, the gardens include seating areas, a barbecue and quieter spaces beside the pond for warmer evenings and slower afternoons around the house.

Gardens, Games & Evenings

The grounds surrounding the Coach House include outdoor dining areas, lawns and a wood-fired hot tub set quietly within the landscape.

A separate games room occupies the former stable block, with table tennis, pool, darts, deep sofas and a second wood-burning stove — equally suited to children, rainy afternoons or longer evenings together after walking on the hills.

On clear nights the skies above Lofftwen can become exceptionally dark, particularly during winter.

The Landscape

Footpaths & Wildlife

Gardens and footpaths around the Coach House connect directly into the wider Lofftwen landscape of meadow, wetland, scrub, heath and newly establishing woodland.

Wildlife changes constantly through the seasons. Red kites and buzzards circle overhead and Tawny owls call across the hills.

A private bird hide sits within walking distance of the house.

Dark Skies & Evenings

Outdoor lighting is intentionally kept low throughout the farm. On clear nights the skies above Lofftwen can become exceptionally dark, particularly during winter.
